Publicis picks up Subway, AKQA Media out

Subway has parted ways with AKQA Media, ending a decade long relationship and opting instead for Publicis, which also handles creative.

Subway has handed its media account to Publicis, with AKQA Media out after a decade.

The sandwich maker, Australia's largest operating quick service restaurant with 1,400 restaurants in ANZ, said the decision to part ways was "not taken lightly", per Head of Marketing Rodica Titeica.

The account, worth circa $20m in spend, will be run out of Brisbane via Zenith and the contract starts from April 2022.

Publicis also handles Subway's creative from Brisbane.

AKQA Media, which merged with Ikon earlier this year, is being rebranded by WPP, folding into Essence from 1 Jan 2022 with Pat Crowley at the helm.
