By Josh McDonnell - Senior Writer

As part of its ongoing Shop Small platform, American Express and Concrete Playground have launched a new hub called The Localist, which aims to drive more people into Sydney's nightlife, cultural – and spend with local businesses.

What you need to know:

  • American Express and Concrete Playground have signed a new partnership to bolster Sydney's economy.
  • The campaign is an extension of Amex's Shop Small platform, urging people to spend their hard earned with small firms.

Concrete Playground has launched a new content partnership with American Express focused on small independent businesses in Sydney.

The publisher has created The Localist, a curated hub designed to help people discover the bars, restaurants, shops and cultural spaces attempting to bounce back from the impact of the pandemic.

Showcasing over 300 businesses hand-picked by a dedicated Shop Small Editor, the series of guides unlock the different neighbourhoods across Sydney.

The campaign also includes a new digital shopfront, where readers can shop a selection of products available to purchase directly from local vendors.

“In what continues to be a challenging period for small businesses, we're revealing local treasures from all corners of Sydney and encouraging people to celebrate the joy of ‘shopping small'," American Express VP of Brand, Charge Cards and Member Experience Naysla Edwards said.

"By experiencing new places and spreading support far and wide, we can help more businesses get back on their feet and ultimately see local communities thrive."

The Localist is the most recent partnership between Concrete Playground and American Express, a four-year partnership dedicated to driving commerce for local businesses participating in Shop Small.
