Tanya Wilks celebrates 25 years on Newcastle's top breakfast show

Tanya Wilks has marked a significant milestone, celebrating 25 years on the Triple M Network, formerly known as KOFM, as part of Newcastle's leading breakfast radio show, Triple M's Tanya & Steve. A native of Newcastle, Wilks has been a prominent figure in the local radio scene since the age of 17, serving as both an announcer and journalist.

According to the company, Wilks has maintained the number one position in breakfast radio for a quarter of a century, a testament to her enduring appeal and connection with the audience. Her contributions to broadcast media and the community were recognised with the awarding of the Order of Australia medal.

To commemorate this achievement, Triple M Newcastle produced a special ten-minute package featuring contributions from a range of notable figures. These included her first co-host, David Collins, Southern Cross Austereo CEO John Kelly, rugby icon Peter Sterlo, her husband, former executive producers, and her son.

The show, Tanya & Steve, continues to hold the top spot in Newcastle's breakfast radio, as confirmed by the GfK Newcastle Survey #1 2024. Wilks expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for her long-standing role in the community. "From KOFM to Triple M, I’m loving every minute of my time in radio – it’s unbelievable that it’s been 25 years! I’m privileged to get to talk to the wonderful people of Newy every day, hear their remarkable stories, and engage with the community we love. Thank you, Newcastle, for always embracing our show and for an amazing 25 years – here’s to many more!" she said.

Blair Woodcock, SCA Head of Content - Regional, praised Wilks for her outstanding contribution to radio. "Tanya Wilks is one of the very best in the business, and for 25 years, Newcastle has been lucky to wake up to her infectious energy, engaging conversations, and undeniable charm. It’s no surprise that Tanya & Steve continue to dominate as Newcastle’s #1 Breakfast show - Tanya’s ability to connect with listeners across the North Coast is second to none. Congratulations on an incredible 25 years, Tanya!"

John Kelly, CEO of Southern Cross Austereo, also extended his congratulations. "Wishing you a happy 25 years at Triple M. Being a Breakfast announcer for 25 years and to be still so successful at #1 is a massive achievement. Congratulations and a big thank you for your commitment, dedication, and expertise."
