Cloudflare unveils realtime suite to enhance audio and video experiences

Cloudflare has launched Cloudflare Realtime, a suite of products designed to enhance real-time audio and video experiences in applications. The suite includes SFU, STUN, and TURN services, alongside a new offering called RealtimeKit.

RealtimeKit provides mobile SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native, and Flutter, as well as SDKs for the Web, including React, Angular, vanilla JavaScript, and WebComponents. It also offers server-side services such as recording, coordination, and transcription. Additionally, RealtimeKit includes user interface components to facilitate quick interface building.

The development of RealtimeKit has been supported by the team from Dyte, a company known for its expertise in real-time experiences, which has joined Cloudflare. The infrastructure for Cloudflare's real-time services spans over 300 cities globally.

Cloudflare RealtimeKit aims to simplify the development of real-time applications by managing complexities such as session establishment, media permissions, NAT traversal, and connection management. The kit includes built-in recording capabilities and integrates voice AI functionalities from providers like ElevenLabs.

Cloudflare's SFU and TURN services have been made generally available. The SFU service supports simulcast, while the TURN service offers advanced analytics. In a strategic partnership, Cloudflare has teamed up with Hugging Face to provide FastRTC users with complimentary access to Cloudflare’s TURN Server product.

Currently, RealtimeKit is in a closed beta phase and is accessible to select customers at no cost during this period. Cloudflare's connectivity cloud provides protection for corporate networks, aids in building Internet-scale applications, accelerates websites, and offers security against DDoS attacks.

Cloudflare addressed that "Interactive applications shouldn't require WebRTC expertise," and suggested that developers can "ship AI-powered realtime apps in days, not weeks."
