Melbourne sees vinyl revival

LP sales have seen a steady increase over the past decade.

  • Melbourne remains an Australian hotspot for record stores due to local demand
  • More than 4 million chart-eligible records were sold in the UK alone in 2017, rising from 3.2 million in 2016.
  • Dutch Vinyl Manager Jeff Williams said customers enjoy the tangible aspects of purchasing vinyls.

Takeout

Vinyl renaissance points to the ongoing demand for tactile and novel experiences. In an age where so much (music, films, photos) are ephemeral and digital, there remains interest in the novelty of analogue: vinyl, polaroid cameras, special book editions, limited-edition magazines. Consider how brands can tap into this nostalgia and novelty of the tactile.
