Databricks expands strategic partnerships with Microsoft and Google Cloud

Databricks has announced a multi-year early extension of its strategic partnership with Microsoft, aimed at advancing data and AI innovation on Azure Databricks, the Microsoft first-party service launched in 2018 to provide data and AI capabilities on a secure platform.

The extended partnership will include new native integrations between Azure Databricks, Azure AI Foundry, and Microsoft Power Platform. Additionally, Databricks and Microsoft will release SAP Databricks on Azure.

Co-founder and CEO of Databricks, Ali Ghodsi, stated, "We are entering a new era where every application will be intelligent, and every business will be data-driven. This extended partnership with Microsoft shows our long-term joint commitment to helping organisations innovate faster with a unified, open, and governed platform for data and AI on Azure Databricks. Together, we’re laying the foundation for the next generation of AI-powered enterprises."

Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Microsoft, Judson Althoff, said, "Democratising data and AI is a critical component for any organisation seeking to drive pragmatic innovation and unlock greater business opportunity. By deepening our long-standing partnership with Databricks and enhancing interoperability, we are delivering significant value to enterprise and IT developers by enabling tighter integration across the Azure ecosystem—from Azure AI Foundry and Power Platform to SAP. Together, we are empowering our customers with Azure Databricks to help them harness the full potential of their data, build the next generation of autonomous systems and accelerate AI Transformation."

In addition to its collaboration with Microsoft, Databricks has announced a new strategic product partnership with Google Cloud. This partnership will make Google’s Gemini models available as native products within the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform. The collaboration allows organisations to build, deploy, and scale AI agents using Google Gemini's capabilities directly on their enterprise data.

Google Gemini 2.5 models are noted for their performance in complex decision making and natural language understanding. The Gemini models, including Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash, are reported to achieve leading performance on industry benchmarks. Databricks customers will have access to 'Deep Think' mode for advanced reasoning and security safeguards. These models will be accessible through SQL queries and model endpoints, eliminating data duplication. Customers can pay for Gemini usage through their Databricks contract.

"By using Google’s Gemini models directly on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform, organisations can build and scale AI agents tailored to their specific domains and data. Gemini is advancing at an impressive rate, and it’s no surprise that enterprises everywhere are seeing value from these models," said Ghodsi.

CEO of Google Cloud, Thomas Kurian, said: "Our partnership with Databricks is another critical step in helping every enterprise transform their businesses with generative AI. By providing Databricks customers with direct access to Gemini’s advanced capabilities, customers can more easily build and deploy sophisticated AI agents, automate complex data workflows, and uncover more predictive insights from their own data, accelerating innovation at scale."
