Perplexity attempts to transform internet interaction with new web browser

Perplexity has introduced a new web browser named Comet, designed to redefine user interaction with the internet by shifting from traditional browsing to a more cognitive experience. According to the company: "In the last 30 years, the internet has evolved from something we simply 'browse' or 'search.' The internet is where we live, work, and connect. It's also where we ask questions."

Comet integrates an intelligent interface that aims to understand user behaviour and streamline browsing sessions. The browser is equipped with a personal assistant feature capable of conducting browsing sessions, answering questions, and performing tasks such as booking meetings or sending emails.

The browser emphasises providing accurate and trustworthy answers, which are deemed crucial for decision-making processes. The Comet assistant is designed to remove friction in the browsing experience, actively conducting entire sessions while users focus on their primary tasks.

Perplexity asserts that with Comet, users do not search for information in the traditional sense. Instead, they "think out loud," and Comet executes complete workflows while maintaining perfect context.

The browser is currently available to Perplexity Max subscribers, with an invite-only access system being rolled out to a waitlist over the summer. New users will receive a limited number of invites to share with others.

Perplexity plans to continue developing Comet, incorporating new features and improvements based on user feedback.
