SBS to broadcast 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships live from Adelaide
SBS has secured a broadcast agreement with Volleyball World to air the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, marking the first occasion the World Championships will be hosted in Australia and the broader Oceania region.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Adelaide, South Australia, from 14 to 23 November 2025 and features 192 of the world’s top beach volleyball players. It will be broadcast live and free on SBS On Demand and SBS Viceland. Matches will be held at The Drive and 'Pinky Flat' riverbank in Adelaide, offering a scenic backdrop for the event.
"SBS has a proud history of showcasing some of the biggest global sporting events to Australian audiences, so we are delighted to bring the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships to our beach-loving country," SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp, said. "Following on from last year’s spectacular Eiffel Tower venue, which made beach volleyball the must-have ticket at the Paris Olympics, the Adelaide organisers are also bringing the sport to the heart of their city, on the banks of the Torrens River next to the iconic Adelaide Oval. The world’s best players gathering in a suitably beautiful location to display their extraordinary athleticism and compete for world titles will make this a compelling broadcast event for sports fans nation-wide."
The event is supported by the South Australian Government through the South Australian Tourism Commission, highlighting the region's commitment to promoting international sporting events. Tickets for the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships are currently on sale.
Volleyball World, a partnership between the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and CVC Capital Partners, aims to foster growth and innovation in the sport globally.
"We are thrilled to partner with SBS to bring the Beach Volleyball World Championships to fans across Australia. This is a milestone moment - not only is it the first time the event is being held in the country, but it’s also a chance to inspire the next generation of beach volleyball players," Felix von Knorring, Volleyball World Head of Media, said. "SBS’s reach and experience in broadcasting volleyball will help elevate the event and ensure maximum visibility nationwide."
SBS has a track record of covering volleyball events, including the Mahindra Australian Volleyball Super League and other international competitions. The network plans to provide comprehensive coverage of the World Championships, with all Australian matches and finals available on catch-up, alongside additional content on SBS digital platforms.
Andrew Dee, CEO of Volleyball Australia, also expressed excitement about the collaboration. "With SBS's expertise in delivering high-quality volleyball content, we will showcase this landmark event to Australian audiences - whether they’re watching from home or on the go. This partnership allows us to bring more world-class volleyball action to even more Aussies."
