"The figures demonstrate that advertisers are increasingly confident as Sydney and Melbourne re-open," CRA CEO Joan Warner says.

Lifting lockdowns and improving business confidence drove a strong October for commercial radio stations, Commercial Radio Australia says.

What you need to know:

  • Commercial Radio Australia, the industry body representing commercial radio, says revenue across all five Australian capital cities in October was 6.1 per cent higher than last year.
  • This reflects advertisers’ increasing confidence as lockdown restrictions ease, CRA CEO Joan Warner says.

Revenue at commercial radio stations in Australia’s five major capital city markets rose 6.1 per cent to just shy of $60 million in October, Commercial Radio Australia says.

The industry body, which represents the nation’s commercial radio broadcasters, recorded a jump from $55.67m in October 2020 to $59.06m this year.

The figures demonstrate advertisers are “increasingly confident” in the face of eased lockdown restrictions, Joan Warner, CRA Chief Executive Officer, said.

Perth’s radio stations saw the highest year-on-year increase in ad revenue, reaching $8.27m last month, an 11.8 per cent increase from 2020. Melbourne saw a 9.4 per cent rise, Sydney – 4 per cent, Brisbane – 2.4 per cent and Adelaide – 1.5 per cent.

The figures were compiled by media data analytics company Milton Data and represent agency and direct ad revenue.
