AANZ invites input on advertising Code of Ethics review
The Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) is set to initiate a public review of its Code of Ethics next week.
This review is designed to engage both the advertising industry and the general public in shaping the standards that govern responsible advertising practices in Australia.
According to the AANA, the review aims to ensure that advertising standards continue to align with evolving community expectations and remain relevant. It noted recent data from Ad Standards indicates while Australians are generally tolerant of strong language, there's growing concern regarding sexual imagery in advertising, particularly when children may be exposed.
The review will also explore potential alignment with Australian Consumer Law and international best practices. AANA emphasised the importance of member and industry engagement in the development of the Codes.
"Member and industry engagement is essential to the development of the Codes to ensure advertising continues to reflect evolving community expectations and remains relevant and in step with public sentiment," the AANA stated.
Submissions for the review are open until Friday, 16 January 2025, closing at 5pm.
