WPP staff push back against four-day office mandate
A change.org petition launched by WPP staff has reached more than 10,000 signatures, as employees push back on plans to implement a four-day office mandate from April 2025.
The petition, which was launched on Thursday, urges CEO Mark Read to reconsider a new policy that would require the majority of WPP's 114,00 staff globally to attend the office four days a week for the first time since the breakout of the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020.
Posted under the name 'Concerned WPP Employees', the survey's description describes WPP's decision as a "step backwards in supporting employee wellbeing and work-life balance".
The new policy was announced via an all staff email sent by Read last week. The memo, which was first published by the Business Insider following reports by the Financial Times, issued that "higher levels of office attendance are associated with stronger employee engagement, improved client survey scores and better financial performance".
WPP is the first local advertising group to require staff attend four days in the office, however Read assured that the change would be approached with "pragmatism and an understanding of people's different circumstances". For example, roles that have always been fully or largely remote would remain so.
