HBO Max expands reach in Australia via Prime Video partnership
HBO Max has expanded its availability in Australia through a new partnership with Prime Video. The streaming service is now accessible as an add-on subscription, offering Australian viewers a broader range of entertainment options.
The HBO Max subscription is priced at $11.99 per month for the Basic plan with ads and $15.99 per month for the Standard plan. Subscribers will gain access to a wide array of content, including productions from HBO, Warner Bros., the DC Universe, Harry Potter, Discovery, and more. This move builds on HBO Max's earlier launch in Australia this year, further extending its reach in the market.
Prime Video, which aims to be a comprehensive entertainment hub, offers a variety of premium add-on subscriptions. The addition of HBO Max enhances its catalogue, providing subscribers with access to HBO Originals such as 'The Last of Us', 'The White Lotus', and 'House of the Dragon'. Upcoming series on the platform include 'Task', 'IT: Welcome to Derry', and 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'. Max Originals like 'The Pitt', 'And Just Like That...', and 'Peacemaker' are also available.
The service includes global favourites such as 'Friends' and 'The Big Bang Theory', alongside Warner Bros. blockbuster hits like 'Minecraft', 'Sinners', 'Harry Potter', and content from the DC Universe. With HBO Max now part of its offerings, Prime Video has increased its number of add-on subscription partners in Australia to 27.
Subscribers can access HBO Max without the need to download additional apps beyond Prime Video, and the subscription can be cancelled at any time. Prime Video itself offers a wide selection of programming, including Amazon MGM Studios Originals, licensed content, and live sports. It is available across thousands of devices and provides a customizable viewing experience. While Prime Video is part of the Amazon Prime membership, titles can also be rented or purchased by non-members.
Daniel Slepak, head of marketplace for Prime Video Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, commented on the development: "Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming - including Amazon MGM Studios Originals - and encompassing original series and movies, licensed content and live sports, the ability to rent or buy thousands of new and popular movies and add-on subscriptions.
"We're thrilled to welcome HBO Max to Prime Video as our 27th add-on subscription partner in Australia, growing our stellar entertainment catalogue and giving our customers an even greater selection of world-class series and blockbuster movies, all in one app experience."
Michael Brooks, Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery Australia and New Zealand, said partnering with Prime Video is a natural next step for HBO Max in Australia.
"After a successful launch only five months ago, our stellar library of global brands and premium content continues to resonate in this market, and this partnership with Prime Video allows us to bring that offering to even more Australians," he said.
