Bonza enters voluntary administration, grounds fleet amidst stakeholder discussions
Fledgling budget airline Bonza Aviation yesterday entered voluntary administration after halting all flights on Monday.
Bonza Airlines first launched in 2021 and has since transported 750,000 passengers across Australia in the 15 months since it took to the air. It now follows in the footsteps of many failed low-cost Australian airlines before it, including Tigerair Australia, AirAsia, and Air Australia.
The airline has appointed Richard Albarran, Kathleen Vouris, Brent Kijurina, and Cameron Shaw appointed as Administrators of the company, with an independent insolvency practitioner to take control of the company during which creditors' claims are put on hold.
The company’s fleet will remain grounded pending discussions with relevant parties and key stakeholders up until at least Thursday 2 May 2024. Customers have been advised contact Bonza's hotline.
In its short lifespan the company had struggled with aircraft shortages and was forced to cancel several routes over the past year. According to the ACCC's most recent domestic aviation report Bonza had amassed less than 2% market share.
