The Marketing Academy’s elite Fellowship Program co-developed with McKinsey & Co has announced its intake for the inaugural APAC round. The benchmarks are high to qualify but the results impressive for CMOs wanting to lift the impact of their marketing expertise into broader business – 57 per cent of those who have completed the nine-month intensive program in the US and UK have since moved into CEO or board roles and another third have been promoted.

Asia-Pacific’s top marketing talent have been identified in the first intake for The Marketing Academy’s small cohort of 2023 Fellowships in the region.

Run by McKinsey & Co, the initiative is designed to sharpen top marketers’ business and financial nous, often a disconnect with executive leadership teams.

In a podcast and feature with Mi3 in May announcing the Fellowship program, Arnott’s CMO Jenni Dill, who completed her Fellowship in the US in 2020 just before joining the private equity-owned consumer goods group, said it helped marketing get beyond “vanity metrics” that can sometimes bewilder CEOs, CFOs and boards.

“It’s an absolutely fantastic way for senior marketers to learn to navigate the language of the CFO, the language of the CEO and the board, and manage those very senior stakeholders in a really positive, proactive way,” she told Mi3. “As you work through the program, whether it's talking about corporate strategy, organisational design or managing stakeholders, particularly from a financial lens, it equips marketers with the essential skills they need to translate their consumer customer growth orientation into meaningful P&L and balance sheet results.

“As soon as you can do that, you take marketing out of being vanity metrics… and into here's the growth we delivered for the business, here's how it flows through the P&L, and here's the growth that we made on the balance sheet by growing the brand and growing the assets of the business. The program is essential in doing that and is the only program I know of in the world that is designed for senior marketers.”
