DreamHack's Melbourne event draws record crowds

DreamHack Melbourne 2024, a global gaming lifestyle festival, has reported a record attendance of 35,513 over the weekend - up from 25,851 attendees in 2023.

"DreamHack Melbourne 2024 was an overwhelming success, and it was incredible to see so many communities from around Australia & the region coming together and sharing in an amazing weekend," said Ben Green, Senior Product Manager, DreamHack, at ESL FACEIT Group.

The festival, part of the ESL FACEIT Group, featured Australia's first-ever hololive production concert, a highlight that attracted a large community of fans.

"A particular highlight from this year was the hololive community, who flocked to DreamHack to support hololive’s first-ever live concert in the southern hemisphere, elevating it to something truly special. The festival was an incredible success and we want to thank every community member, creator, and fan who spent their weekend with us."

Popular podcast groups Trash Taste and Cold Ones made live stage appearances, adding to the festival's diverse entertainment offerings. The event also hosted world-class esports tournaments in Counter-Strike 2 and League of Legends. MIBR emerged as the winner of the ESL Challenger, while Ground Zero claimed victory in the LCO Split 1 Grand Finals.

Over 600 content creators participated in creator-focused activities, further enriching the festival's program. The festival also showcased the creative talents of over 100 local artists in a massive Artist Alley.

The first-ever Creator Summit was held on Friday, April 26, as part of the festival's commitment to supporting and celebrating content creators. The festival also featured communities from Live-Action Role Play (LARP), Speedrunning, Warhammer, and Cosplay, demonstrating the diverse interests of the gaming community.

The DreamHack Expo in Rod Laver Arena showcased the latest in tech, lifestyle, and gaming, with booths from brands including Kick, Intel, and Monster Energy. The festival's commitment to innovation was also evident in its collaboration with hololive production, a Virtual YouTuber Group that specialises in the utilisation of complex 2D and 3D character model designs for live streaming and content creation. COVE Corporation, an IT company blending content creation with VR and AR technologies, operates hololive production.
