Adobe unveils AI-powered contract features in Acrobat to simplify document management

Adobe has introduced new intelligent contract capabilities within its Acrobat AI Assistant, aimed at simplifying the management and comprehension of contracts. These generative AI features are designed to assist users in understanding complex terms and identifying differences across multiple agreements.

The new capabilities target a wide range of users, including business owners, finance teams, marketers, and consumers, facilitating efficient comprehension and verification of contract information. A survey conducted by Adobe Acrobat revealed that nearly 70% of consumers have signed contracts without fully understanding all the terms. Additionally, 64% of small and medium-sized business (SMB) owners have avoided signing contracts due to a lack of understanding.

The Acrobat AI Assistant is equipped to automatically recognize contracts, generate overviews, highlight key terms, and summarize information. It also recommends questions specific to the documents being reviewed. The tool offers straightforward explanations with clickable citations, enabling users to easily verify responses.

A notable feature of the Acrobat AI Assistant is its ability to compare and contrast up to ten contracts, including scanned documents, to ensure consistency and identify discrepancies. Secure sharing and e-signature requests are integrated within the application, enhancing its utility for users.

Adobe has emphasized that its AI models adhere to strict data security protocols and do not train on customer data. These new capabilities are available as an add-on for US$4.99 per month, accessible on desktop, web, and mobile platforms in worldwide English.

Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Adobe Document Cloud, commented on the development, stating, "Customers open billions of contracts in Adobe Acrobat each month and AI can be a game changer in helping simplify their experience." He further added, "We are introducing new capabilities to deliver contract intelligence in Adobe AI Assistant, making it easier for customers to understand and compare these complex documents and providing citations to help them verify responses, all while keeping their data safe."

The Acrobat AI Assistant, launched in February 2024, has experienced a significant increase in customer interactions, with conversations doubling quarter over quarter in the final quarter of 2024. Adobe Acrobat boasts over 650 million monthly active users, who collectively open more than 400 billion PDFs each month.
