New creative placement scheme launched for young people: More agencies needed

By Press release

Creative HoMie, a new project to bring young people affected by homelessness into the creative industry, has launched with the support of Australian agencies.

HoMie started in 2015 between three friends eager to break down the stigma associated with homelessness and those experiencing it rough on the streets.

Building on HoMie's retail program, which includes a placement program and label, the social justice charity has created a four-week course to provide young people with an introduction to the industry.

Businesses involved in the program will then host those who complete the program for paid internships.

The agencies that have confirmed to be involved in the intern program are as follows:

  • Inlight Media
  • Digital Picnic
  • The Lab
  • Noisy Beast

The course will initially pace 12 young people - with HoMie still looking for some businesses to take on interns in the new year.

Noisy Beast will host a course in week one on giving brands a bigger voice. Week two includes a session run by DDB ECD Anthony Moss and another hosted by The Likes of You agency director Imogen Micklewright-Hill.

Week three includes a look into the power of insights, hosted by The Lab, followed by a dive into brand messaging led by independent brand strategist Richie Meldrum.

In the final week Portable Agency will run a session on using design to solve complex problems and will be closed out by The Digital Picnic's Founder Cherie Clonan addressing the world of content marketing.

"When our Founding Director was three years old, she experienced homelessness for the first time due to circumstances outside of her Mother’s control," said Digital Picnic.

"Now 34 years later, we are so proud to announce that Digital Picnic has partnered with HoMie [via the good souls at Creative Natives] and we will be offering fully paid internships to those experiencing homelessness in the hopes that we can teach a “man” to fish, via an internship immersed in teaching what we teach best: digital marketing."
