AKQA's Brian Vella steps down as APAC chief

The APAC chief executive officer of WPP's AKQA, Brian Vella, has announced his departure from the digital design and innovation agency after eight years.

Vella has spent 24 years in total at WPP, previously climbing the ranks at digital agency DT, prior to its merger with AKQA in 2017.

He shared the news in a post made to LinkedIn on Thursday.

"It's difficult to put into words what leaving a company after 24 years feels like, but grateful is the one I keep returning to," he wrote, thanking Ajaz Ahmed and David Trewern for their support and leadership during his tenure.

"Working in a period of massive change and digital transformation, we were relentless in our pursuit of innovation. Always with the belief that the most imaginative force in the universe was imagination. To achieve this, I believed in high performing teams and spent two decades building them," he continued. "I had the privilege of working with exceptional people who shaped or helped me in countless ways. Thank you to everyone along the journey. Past and present."

Vella is yet to line up his next gig and instead said he would be taking time to "to recharge, reflect and explore new opportunities where design, innovation and commerce meet". "If our paths cross again in that pursuit, I’d love to connect."
