Seven Network secures broadcast rights for TCS Sydney Marathon 2025

The Seven Network has become the official Australian broadcast media partner for the TCS Sydney Marathon, set to take place on Sunday, 31 August 2025. The event will be broadcast live and free on 7mate and 7plus Sport from 6.00am to 10.00am AEST. Highlights and replays will be available on 7plus Sport.

The commentary team for the marathon will be led by legendary sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney.

"Sydney’s elevation to join the likes of Boston, London and New York in the elite group of Abbott World Marathon Majors is an enormous compliment to our Harbour City. It gives Australia the equivalent of a world championship each year, attracting the best globally and inspiring runners at all levels to tackle the ultimate distance," McAvaney said. "For Seven to be involved in the first Sydney Marathon at this level is a great privilege and honour, and it promises to be a magnificent spectacle."

The TCS Sydney Marathon is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, a series that includes other prestigious marathons such as those held in Boston, London, and New York. The event is supported by the New South Wales Government through Destination NSW, owned by Athletics Australia, and managed by Pont3.

Renee Quirk, Seven’s Commercial Director, Sport, commented on the partnership, "We are thrilled to showcase major sporting events such as the TCS Sydney Marathon where everyday Australians can mix it with athletic superstars including marquee runner Eliud Kipchoge. Bruce McAvaney will lead a stellar commentary team on Seven for the event."

Wayne Larden, TCS Sydney Marathon Race Director, also expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome Seven as our official Australian broadcast media partner to deliver the most compelling and accessible coverage in the event’s history."

He further noted, "By teaming up with Australia’s most watched and trusted network, we’re not just expanding our reach, we’re showcasing the incredible talent of our elite athletes, the inspiring stories of everyday runners, and the breathtaking beauty of our city to a wider audience than ever before."
