Netflix streaming, Google searches down in Domo's 12th annual 'Data Never Sleeps' study

Cloud-based data and AI platform, Domo, has released the 12th edition of its 'Data Never Sleeps' (DNS) study, a comprehensive report that tracks global data usage every 60 seconds and its impact on everyday lives.

The latest edition reveals data generated on newer platforms like TikTok and changes in consumer and company behaviours.

Key findings from the study include a 6% drop in Google searches from 6.5 million every minute in 2023 to 5.8 million in 2024, in what Domo suggests is an indicator of the growing use of generative AI as a search alternative.

There has been a 19% decrease in Netflix hours streamed since 2021, to 362,962, while platforms like TikTok and Snapchat are seeing a steep increase in engagement.

Every minute, TikTok users upload 16,000 videos, 138.9 million reels play across Facebook and Instagram, and the number of Snaps sent is up 37% from 2022.

Virtual collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams and Slack continue to grow, with 229 million meeting minutes recorded on Teams and 1.04 million messages sent on Slack every minute. Black Friday continues to grow in popularity with shoppers spending $43.6M globally during Cyber Week in 60 seconds.
