Operators to invest $17 billion in AI network security by 2029: Juniper

Operators are projected to invest over $17 billion globally in AI-based network security over the next five years, according to a study by Juniper Research. The report, titled 'AI in Cellular Networks Market 2025-2029', forecasts that investment in AI-based network security will increase from $2.5 billion in 2025 to $4.6 billion in 2029.

The increased investment is driven by operators' focus on expanding B2B revenue streams in industries such as transportation, healthcare, and energy, where network security is crucial. AI is being used to create intelligent and autonomous systems in network security, which is seen as essential for growing B2B revenue.

Juniper Research suggests that as traditional revenue sources slow, operators need to invest more in enterprise-focused solutions, particularly enhancing network security. The research indicates that operators risk missing out on B2B revenue growth if they do not invest in securing enterprise data.

AI is currently used to analyze data and automate manual security operations, but future strategies should focus on autonomy, with technologies like agentic AI being crucial. "Agentic AI will enable operators to inject autonomy into their network security operations; responding in real-time to threats to the network while retaining efficiency. These systems will better position operators to protect enterprise traffic; providing the foundation for strong B2B revenue growth," said research author Alex Webb.
